Boosting sales of popular and unpopular products

Why do I see milk chocolate on display, but not dark chocolate? Why do I only see the milk chocolate and the assorted truffles on display in stores. Why don’t they put the “dark assortment,” “60% dark chocolate,” and “70% dark chocolate” on display? Because the milk chocolate is most popular and dark chocolate is less popular?

It’s unpopular products that need a sales boost. The products that are all-the-rage don’t need a sales boost, because they are sold plenty. Milk chocolate has plenty of sales, and doesn’t need a sales boost. It’s dark chocolate, including “dark assortment” and “70% dark chocolate” truffles that need to be put on display, not the milk chocolate truffles.

“Positive feedback” is a problem with the food market, especially for chocolate. The popular products become more popular, because they get more sales boost, while the unpopular products lose popularity, because they don’t get a sales boost.

That’s not how it should be with any market. Businesses experiment and explore, so customers can try something different.
